At the 500-day mark of his presidency, President Trump enjoys the highest approval rating among his own party since World War II, save one exception, according to Axios’s Jonathan Swan.

Trump’s 87 percent approval among Republicans bests all other presidents in the modern era, except for President George W. Bush in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. And Trump is almost 10 points ahead of his predecessor, President Barack Obama, who only saw support from 79 percent of Democrats 500 days into his presidency.

Out of the eleven presidents with lower same-party approval than Trump, only three did not win re-election. Two of the presidents who won reelection, Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon, won 49 out of 50 states in their second campaigns.

If President Trump continues to hold onto his Republican base, he could be well on his way to another significant electoral college win in 2020.
