80% of Americans Believe Illegal Border Crossings Are a Problem

A new ABC News/Washington Post poll released on Tuesday found that the overwhelming majority of Americans agree with President Trump’s assessment that illegal border crossings along the U.S.-Mexico border is a crisis or serious problem.

According to the poll, 45 percent of Americans say that the number of illegal border crossings along the United States southern border is “a serious problem,” while 35 percent say it has become a “crisis.”

The poll also found that just 18 percent of Americans do not believe the number of border crossings has created a serious problem.

However, the poll also showed that while Americans do agree that the number of illegal border crossings along the U.S.-Mexico border is a problem, they remain divided on how best to address the issue.

The poll found that 64 percent of Americans are opposed to Trump declaring a national emergency in order to fund construction of a border wall, while 39 percent agree with Trump’s “overall stance on immigration,” which according to The Hill, is “a slight increase from 2017 when 35 percent supported him on the issue.”
