A Few Familiar Faces Will Introduce Kavanaugh at His Confirmation Hearing

The confirmation hearing for Judge Brett Kavanaugh will begin on Tuesday, September 4 and will feature opening statements from U.S. senators on the Judiciary Committee and from the judge himself.

Before Kavanaugh speaks, though, he’ll be introduced by a few faces that should be familiar to Republicans.

CNN reported on Tuesday:

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh will be introduced by Republican Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and liberal lawyer Lisa Blatt at his Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing next week.

Portman and Rice both worked with Kavanaugh in George W. Bush’s White House.

Rice, of course, was secretary of state for Bush from 2005 to 2009, and was Bush’s national security advisor from 2001 to 2005. Portman was the U.S. trade representative and later the director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), all during Bush’s second term as president.

The latter speaker introducing Kavanaugh, Lisa Blatt, is a former clerk to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, CNN reported.

Blatt, a former clerk to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, wrote an opinion piece in Politico supporting Kavanaugh’s appointment, much the same way that Neal Katyal, who was acting solicitor general under President Barack Obama, supported the nomination of Justice Neil Gorsuch last year.

The three speakers represent different parts of the ideological spectrum, representing a strong bipartisan front for Kavanaugh to begin his four-day hearing.
