Abandon All Hope? DCCC Dumps Kihuen After Sexual Harassment Allegations

Rep. Ruben Kihuen (D-NV) is getting the cold shoulder from top Democrats after last week’s BuzzFeed News report that he sexually harassed a woman on his campaign staff last cycle.

The Hill reported this week that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) removed Kihuen’s name from its list of 2018 vulnerable incumbents who would receive financial assistance from the committee.

A source familiar with the decision told The Hill that the DCCC scrubbed Kihuen’s name from the program and website immediately upon learning of BuzzFeed’s investigation from last Friday.

Cached copies of the DCCC’s Frontline webpage show Kihuen’s name removed shortly after the allegations surfaced.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Lujan (D-NM) called on Kihuen to resign shortly after the BuzzFeed report surfaced.

Interestingly, Kihuen has refused to step down and claimed those very Democratic leaders calling for his resignation knew about the sexual harassment allegations when he was a candidate.

Kihuen is the protégé of retired Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) and some Democrats have said they believe Reid also knew about the allegations against Kihuen.

Another Democrat, Sen. Al Franken (D-MN), is expected to announce his resignation Thursday after multiple accusers have claimed Franken engaged in various forms of sexual misconduct.

Kihuen, thus far, has remained indignant and does not appear any closer to stepping down.
