After Years of Antagonizing This Group, Warren Now Wants a Favor

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has never held back on attacking Wall Street during her career.

In fact, she’s built her career off such attacks. Just one tweet, by way of example, shows what Warren was most looking for in a secretary of the Treasury was someone willing to “stand up to Wall Street.”

After years of attacking Wall Street, though, Warren now wants a favor from them.

The Washington Post‘s Finance 202 reported (emphasis theirs):

The Massachusetts Democrat sent letters Monday to investment funds with the biggest stakes in three publicly traded gun makers, urging them to pressure the manufacturers to self-regulate, The Finance 202 has learned.

…But Warren wants specifics. She’s asking firms to pressure gun companies to impose their own age restrictions and waiting periods on buyers and invest in developing safer guns. In addition to BlackRock, she sent missives to Vanguard, Fidelity, Invesco and five other firms with major positions in gun companies and asked for reports on their plans by March 9.

Given Warren’s history with the financial industry, she’s either writing the letter to score political points, or she simply doesn’t understand how political capital works.

One more possibility? Warren may be tighter with Wall Street than she’d have her far-left base believe. NTK Network noted earlier this year that reports show Warren “holding meetings with top Wall Street executives that in the past Warren has publicly bashed.”

So is Warren putting on a political show, is she a bad policymaker, or just a hypocrite? No answer seems good if she indeed has 2020 presidential ambitions.
