AG Hawley: Greitens May Have Committed Felony With Donor List of Charity He Founded

Attorney General Josh Hawley (R-MO) is taking an aggressive position on embattled Gov. Eric Greitens (R-MO), announcing on Tuesday he may have uncovered criminal wrongdoing by Greitens concerning the governor’s charity.

The Kansas City Star reported:

Attorney General Josh Hawley announced Tuesday morning that his office has uncovered potential criminal wrongdoing by Gov. Eric Greitens, a fellow Republican, and he has turned that evidence over to the St. Louis prosecutor.

Hawley said that during the course of an investigation into the Mission Continues, a charity founded by Greitens, his office “uncovered evidence of wrongdoing that goes beyond Missouri’s charity laws” and indicates “potentially criminal acts were committed by Gov. Eric Greitens.”

Hawley, who is a candidate for U.S. Senate, said his team found evidence that Greitens allegedly obtained and transmitted the charity’s donor list for political fundraising.

Hawley has called for Greitens to resign, following allegations that Greitens sexually harassed a woman he was having an affair with in 2015.

Greitens, for his part, hit back in a statement on Tuesday afternoon:

Hawley faces vulnerable Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) in the U.S. Senate race in Missouri this fall.
