Ahead of First State of the Union, Trump is Quiet on One Major Front

Ahead of First State of the Union, Trump is Quiet on One Major Front

Donald Trump is mere hours away from his first State of the Union address as president. It could be the largest audience Trump will speak to at one time since his inaugural address.

But ahead of the speech, Trump has gone silent on his favorite medium.

Trump, through his @realDonaldTrump Twitter account, has tweeted only once since Sunday morning. At that, it was an unexciting tweet about the new secretary of the Health and Human Services (HHS) department, Alex Azar.

Trump’s silence on Twitter comes despite a number of events that one might expect would attract his attention.

  • Several musicians and artists called the president and his policies out at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night
  • FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, a frequent target of Trump’s ire, stepped down on Monday
  • House Republicans voted to release a controversial memo on alleged FISA abuses, relating back to the investigation into Russian interference in 2016
  • The president declined to impose new sanctions on Russian entities, but did release a list of oligarchs tied to the Putin regime

Is this a new trend for Trump? From his Davos speech to the shutdown fight, Trump has been tweeting less during big moments.

So, what is Trump thinking about the events of the last two days? America may have to wait for the State of the Union on Tuesday night.
