Democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said during an interview Wednesday that she hopes House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) will become speaker of the House after the 2018 midterm elections, but would not go as far as to support Pelosi’s bid herself.

CNN’s Chris Cuomo asked Ocasio-Cortez whether she recognizes Pelosi as the leader of the House Democrats.

“Of course,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “She is the leader of – I mean, Speaker or rather Leader, Pelosi, hopefully, you know, we’ll see. She’s the current leader of the party, and I think that the party absolutely does have its leadership in the House.”

Cuomo followed up by asking Ocasio-Cortez directly if she would support Pelosi as leader of the House Democratic caucus when she gets to Congress.

“Again, we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “Once the House is won, we have to make that decision from there. You know I think it’s not about a referendum any one person, but it needs to be a referendum on where we are at as a team.”
