All three candidates that were endorsed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez were soundly defeated in their respective primaries on Tuesday.
American voters delivered a blow on Tuesday night to the democratic socialist movement that has captivated the Democratic Party, by rejecting every candidate that democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez endorsed.
Ocasio-Cortez became the latest rising star of the Democratic Party in June, following her stunning upset of Rep. Joe Crowley (D-NY), the chair of the House Democratic caucus.
Following that upset Ocasio-Cortez hit the national campaign trail, endorsing several Democratic candidates ahead of Tuesday night’s primaries.
Ocasio-Cortez endorsed Abdul El-Sayed for governor of Michigan, Fayrouz Saad in Michigan’s 11th Congressional District, and Cori Bush in Missouri’s 1st Congressional District.
All three candidates that were endorsed by Ocasio-Cortez were soundly defeated in their respective primaries on Tuesday.
El-Sayed lost his primary by over 20 points, Cori Bush lost her primary by 19 points, and Saad finished second-to-last and captured just 18 percent of the vote.
While Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Tom Perez might think Ocasio-Cortez is future of the Democratic Party, these results don’t bode well for the democratic socialist movement in America.
