As sexual harassment allegations broke against Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) on Thursday, his senior colleague from the Gopher State, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), refused to pass immediate judgment on the accusations:

But Klobuchar will also have to answer for her praise of Franken at the Women’s March Convention in Detroit at the end of October, where she said that he should be the only male senator in the upper legislative chamber.

“So now we are up to 21 women in the United States Senate, and people always say to me, ‘Well, what’s the right number?’ And I always say, ‘Well, maybe 100.'” Klobuchar joked.

The senator then added that she would keep one of her male colleagues in the senate, her fellow senator from Minnesota, “But then I correct it, and I say, ’99 [women senators] plus my colleague Al Franken.'”

“So Al is my junior senator. That means I am responsible for everything he says and does,” she continued. “So it’s not always easy having him as the junior senator.”

Klobuchar then told the crowd a story about how she was mistaken for Franken’s wife on a flight from Washington, D.C. to Minnesota.

A Los Angeles radio host accused Franken of aggressively kissing her without her consent and grabbing her breasts on a 2006 USO Tour.
