‘Angel’ Mom: Undocumented Classmate ‘Permanently’ Separated My Son From His Family

Speaking at an event with President Trump, Laura Wilkerson detailed how a classmate, who was in the U.S. illegally, tortured and murdered her son.

President Trump invited “Angel Families” – those who have lost a loved one to crime committed by people in the U.S. illegally – to the White House on Friday.

During the event, the president asked Laura Wilkerson, of Texas, to talk about the suffering her late son endured.

Her son Josh “was brutally tortured, strangled over and over,” she said. “He was set on fire after death. His last hours were brutal.”

Josh Wilkerson was murdered by an undocumented classmate, Hermilo Moralez, in 2010.

“We weren’t lucky enough to be separated for five days or ten days. We’re separated permanently,” Wilkerson told the crowd at the White House, an apparent reference to the Trump administration’s controversial family separation policy. “Anytime we want to see or be close to our kids, we go to the cemetery.”

President Trump is highlighting crime committed by undocumented immigrants in his effort to call for stricter immigration laws and a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico. Some data show, however, that immigrants here illegally commit crime at lower rates than native-born Americans.
