Another One: 10 Most Popular Govs in the Nation Are All Republicans, Again

It happened in October 2017 and February 2018. Now again, in April 2018, the 10 most popular governors in the nation are all Republicans.

Morning Consult released its latest iteration of “America’s Most and Least Popular Governors” on Thursday. Gov. Charlie Baker (R-MA) again tops the list, with a sky-high, 71-percent approval rating.

Seven other governors earn approval ratings of 60 percent or more:

  • Larry Hogan (R-MD): 68 percent approval, 17 percent disapproval
  • Kay Ivey (R-AL): 67-15
  • Phil Scott (R-VT): 65-21
  • Chris Sununu (R-NH): 63-21
  • Dennis Daugaard (R-SD): 62-24
  • Matt Mead (R-WY): 61-25
  • Gary Herbert (R-UT): 60-23

Govs. Doug Burgum (R-ND) and Brian Sandoval (R-NV) round out the top 10.

Of note, five of the top 10 most popular governors (Baker, Hogan, Scott, Sununu, and Sandoval) in the nation serve in states that Hillary Clinton won in 2016. The results suggest that Republican governors are popular in both red and blue states.

Gov. Dan Malloy (D-CT) is the least popular governor in the nation, with a disapproval rating (72 percent) near the approval rating (71 percent) of Baker, his neighbor to the north.
