Apple’s Battery Issue the Latest in a Series of Mistakes

Time and again, Apple has disappointed consumers with design flaws and poor customer service. The latest battery issue is just the latest.

The latest controversy surrounding tech giant Apple involves the company’s decision to purposely slow down older phones. Apple claims its decision stemmed from a desire to protect the phones from breaking down, but consumers are up in arms over what they perceive as a dirty trick to force people to buy newer phones.

The Huffington Post reminded its readers on Wednesday about two of Apple’s biggest past controversies, both of which unfairly hurt consumers:

Antennagate: In 2010, Apple manufactured a phone that placed the antenna where consumers held the phone, creating a real dropped call issue. Founder and CEO Steve Jobs told consumers to hold the phone differently, but eventually gave away free cases to people who complained.

Headphone jack elimination: “In 2016, Apple removed the headphone jack from the iPhone 7. Despite causing an a small uproar, Apple’s head of marketing, Phil Schiller, called the move courageous. It’s more than amusing when companies congratulate themselves for taking self-serving actions that annoy their customers.”

Today, Apple finds itself at a crossroads. Competitors’ phones are not only faster (read more about Apple slowing down its chips here), many offer better features, too. The company has always had a loyal following, but consumers may be more willing to move to other manufacturers if problems like these persist.
