In an interview on MSNBC’s “Kasie DC” on Sunday night, Democratic Arizona congressional candidate Hiral Tipirneni voiced support for late-term abortion, a stance that could sink her campaign.

Host Kasie Hunt cited Rep. Trent Franks’ (R-AZ) opposition to abortion in Congress, and she asked Tipirneni if she would support late-term abortion. Franks previously occupied the seat for which Tipirneni is running.

“I do believe that’s a decision that should be between a woman, her partner, her physician, and her faith,” she responded. The Democrat called for sex education to make abortion “rare,” but she did not elaborate on her position.

Hunt pressed her, asking if she thinks there should be any limits on abortion.

“Late-term abortions – those are based on medical input from very experienced physicians, and it’s usually related to a risk to the woman’s life,” Tipirneni said, signaling support. “It is something that is very critical, and I don’t think that’s something that we should be legislating.”

Tipirneni is facing off against Republican Debbie Lesko on Tuesday in the Arizona 8th Congressional District special election.
