As Pelosi Pledges Tax Cut Repeal, GOP Wants Vote to Make Individual Cuts Permanent

The House GOP wants a vote in 2018 to make permanent individual tax cuts passed last year, according to reporting from CNBC.

Republicans are drafting legislation to make permanent the reductions to individual tax rates and a provision that allows businesses to fully deduct expenses immediately, according to two people briefed on the discussions.

The goal would be for the House of Representatives to vote on the bill April 17, the deadline for households to file their tax returns, the sources said, though one cautioned that date could slip.

Currently, the individual provisions of the tax cut bill “[begin] phasing out after five years,” according to CNBC.

The desire for a vote to make tax cuts permanent stands in strong contrast to what House Democrats are pushing; namely, repeal of the tax cuts.

NTK Network reported on Wednesday:

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said that Democrats would indeed repeal the GOP tax law if they are successful in retaking the House of Representatives this November during a town hall on Wednesday.

If control of the House in 2018 is decided along the lines of making permanent the tax cuts versus repealing them, House Democrats may be in for some ugly surprises on the night of the election.
