Bad News for 2020? Net Approval for Kamala Harris Plummets Over 2017

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), a little more than one year into her tenure as junior U.S. senator from California, may want to run for president in a few years. Declining support in her own home state may make it an uphill battle.

Morning Consult has tracked the approval rating for Harris, and every other U.S. senator, every quarter for years.

With the release of their latest quarterly rankings on Thursday, here’s how Harris’ net approval rating has tracked since the first quarter of 2017:

For those keeping score at home, Harris has seen her net approval rating lose half its value (a drop of 13 points) over the span of just a year. Her approval rating has plummeted eight points over the year (52 percent to 44 percent) and her disapproval rating has jumped five percent (23 percent to 28 percent).

Are Californians wising up to Harris’ ambitions beyond the state she represents? Is her drop in net approval due to something else? We may not have the answers, but Harris needs to stop the political bleeding if she’s to stage a successful presidential campaign in 2020.
