Bain Capital Exec Inching to 2020 Run … and He May Have Team Obama’s Support

Mitt Romney ran Bain Capital and was savaged by Team Obama in 2012 for his work there. But a different Bain exec may be running on the Dem side in 2020.

A former Massachusetts governor and current Bain Capital executive is mulling a run for president.

No, it’s not Mitt Romney, who’s running for U.S. Senate in Utah this year.

It’s ex-Gov. Deval Patrick (D-MA), according to Politico.

The former two-term Democrat plans to hit the campaign trail in a handful of races around the country this fall, which would “help him sort it out by the end of the year,” said John Walsh, a close adviser who managed Patrick’s 2006 insurgent gubernatorial campaign and later headed up his leadership PAC.

“He’s really thinking about running but hasn’t decided yet,” Walsh, who frequently speaks with the former governor, told POLITICO.

Politico also reported, in 2017, that former President Barack Obama’s political team was pushing Patrick to run against Donald Trump in 2020.

The irony of all this? As mentioned, Patrick is a Bain Capital executive. In fact, he’s a managing director, according to Bain’s website. But working for Bain Capital was a grave sin in Team Obama’s playbook, one they regularly hammered Romney for in 2012.

Either working for Bain is not as terrible a thing as Team Obama made it out to be in 2012, or it only matters to them if you worked at Bain and you’re a Republican. Either way, expect Trump’s team to target Bain if Patrick is the Democratic nominee – Trump and Romney are not exactly fans of each other.
