Bannon Accuses Trump of ‘Betrayal’ as the President’s Approval Rating Soars

Speaking with Bloomberg’s Michael Lewis for a piece about Washington, D.C. under the Trump administration, former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon has maintained his hostile attitude towards the president, describing his attempts at governance as a “betrayal.”

Lewis interviewed Bannon while watching Trump’s State of the Union last month, and the former Brietbart executive blasted the president for attempting to deal on immigration:

Words are now coming out of Trump’s mouth but Bannon seems to be only half listening. He’s got a pair of phones out and is scrolling through the speech, the text of which someone has just sent him. As he reads his face flushes. “They have path to citizenship in here,” he says, matter-of- factly. “It’s terrible. It’s a betrayal.”

Trump is currently muscling Democrats to extract a high price for codification of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

In exchange for a potential path to citizenship for DACA, the president demanded full funding for a border wall and the end of chain migration and the visa lottery program. Trump ran on his “Art of the Deal” credentials and is flexing that tenacity to enact his America First vision.

If Bannon wants to discuss “betrayal,” perhaps he should start with his own back-stabbing statements to author Michael Wolff for Wolff’s book, “Fire and Fury.” In the book, Bannon accuses Trump’s son of “treasonous” behavior and mocked the president in private.

It’s also worth noting that Trump’s approval rating has risen three points since he fired Bannon in August. The president has obviously not missed his strategist’s tactics.
