Danny Tarkanian is one of the bolder U.S. Senate candidates backed by Steve Bannon, sticking with Bannon even after Bannon trashed the Trump family and Trump issued a ‘Bannon or me’ ultimatum.

Tarkanian, running against incumbent Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV) in the primary in Nevada, went a step further on Wednesday by appearing to go after Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter, after she worked with Heller.

CNN‘s Eric Bradner reported:

“Dean Heller’s saying that he talks to Trump on the phone all the time; talks to Ivanka Trump all the time,” Tarkanian told KBET host Kevin Wall. “Well, Ivanka Trump was a Democrat, and she’s very, very moderate to liberal, compared to the Republican base.”

Bannon, of course, became infamous in pro-Trump circles after The Guardian revealed he told author Michael Wolff that Donald Trump, Jr.’s meeting with Russians in 2016 was “treasonous” and “unpatriotic.”

But Tarkanian, despite painting himself as the only pro-Trump candidate in the race, also has directed his fair share of criticism at the president, both when he was a candidate and now that he’s in the Oval Office.

  • In July 2016, Tarkanian said Trump has “said a lot of things I wish he hadn’t said”
  • In October 2016, Tarkanian said: “Obviously Donald Trump has his problems that have been very well reported”
  • In a September 2017 interview on MSNBC, Tarkanian said: “Now, there’s all kinds of things that I may not agree with President Trump when I get into office”

The more statements like these, and the one Tarkanian made about Ivanka Trump, come to light, the more pro-Trump Nevada primary voters may question if he’s the right candidate for supporting the president and his agenda.
