Asked about sexual harassment allegations against former President Bill Clinton and Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) on CNN on Sunday, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) refused to take a strong stand on his fellow liberals.

“I don’t think that at this moment our goal is to look back 20 years or 30 years. Our goal is to go forward,” Sanders said when presented with Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s (D-NY) claim that Clinton should have resigned the presidency.

The Vermont senator emphasized the importance of empowering women’s rights in the workplace. He also made sure to clearly state his support for abortion in his answer.

CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Sanders if Franken should resign, and the senator again dodged.

“I think that’s a decision for Al Franken and the people of the state of Minnesota,” he said.

Sanders even seemingly defended Franken, calling the accused senator “popular” and saying that his constituents “think that he’s doing a good job.”
