Biden and Sanders Are Tied in Iowa

A new poll conducted by Iowa Starting Line/Change Research found that former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) are tied among likely Democratic caucus-goers in Iowa, which is the first contest for 2020 Democratic hopefuls.

The poll, which was released on Monday, was conducted last week and found that both Biden and Sanders received 24 percent among Democratic caucus-goers.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D-IN) came in third with 14 percent support, followed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) with 12 percent, and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) with 10 percent.

This poll comes at a time when most national polling shows Biden pulling away from the crowded Democratic primary field.

Iowa Starting Line credited Sanders’ “residual strength” in Iowa from his failed 2016 presidential run as the main reason why Sanders was locked in a tie with the former vice president.

The candidate receiving the most support as Iowans’ second choice candidate was Warren with 19 percent, followed by Biden with 16 percent.
