Former Vice President Joe Biden is expected to decide whether he’ll run for president in 2020 by January, according to the Associated Press.

According to sources, Biden believes he can beat President Donald Trump, but he remains “conflicted” on whether he should actually mount another presidential campaign.

Biden himself is more conflicted — but he is listening keenly to the supporters pushing him to run for the White House in 2020. Biden is convinced he can beat President Donald Trump, friends and advisers say, and he has given himself until January to deliberate and size up potential competition for the Democratic nomination, according to people who have spoken to the former vice president about his decision-making.

The former Delaware senator “diligently maintains” a political network of advisers and aides in key battleground states. He also doesn’t appear to be shying away from campaigning. He spent Labor Day in Pittsburgh, talking to voters and rehashing old campaign talking points.

“My dad used to have an expression. A job is a lot more than just a paycheck. It’s about your dignity. It’s about your respect. It’s about look your kid in the eye and say, ‘honey it’s gonna be okay,’” Biden said Monday.

Biden, who recently lamented the partisan bickering in Washington during the eulogy for Sen. John McCain’s at his Arizona memorial service, would be 77 years old on Election Day 2020. He’s run for president twice previously, in 1988 and again in 2008, when he was eventually selected to be Barack Obama’s running mate.
