Former Vice President Joe Biden said that his family wants him to run for president in 2020 during a discussion with author Jon Meacham at the University of Delaware on Tuesday.

Meacham asked Biden what he could say about his possible 2020 presidential run.

“I’ll just tell you straight up,” Biden said. “We do everything by family meetings because no man or woman has a right to run for high public office without it being a family decision.”

Biden then told Meacham that his wife, son, and daughter are “prodding” him to run.

“We just had a family meeting with all the grandkids, too. And there’s a consensus that I should [run], that they want, the most important people in my life want me to run,’ Biden said.

“The first hurdle for me was deciding whether or not I am comfortable taking the family through what would be a very, very, very difficult campaign,” Biden continued.

Biden then said that both the Democratic primary and general election would be difficult.

“I’m certain about where the family is,” Biden added.

Biden then said he didn’t want his presidential campaign to be “fool’s errand,” before adding that he was “very close” to deciding.

“We also are making a decision whether or not we can fund this campaign on my conditions because I will not accept, I will not be part of a super PAC,” Biden said.
