Bill Clinton Brags About Using Chinese-Made Solar Panels for Virgin Islands Recovery

The former president seemed to take a shot at President Trump's trade war while announcing a new program to provide energy sources to the U.S. Virgin Islands.

At an event announcing a project to help provide energy to community centers in the U.S. Virgin Islands, former President Bill Clinton boasted that some of the solar panels to be used were made in China.

Speaking in the hurricane-ravaged territory, Clinton stressed the importance of helping “community pillars” in the wake of devastation. The center he stood in front serves to help “survivors of domestic abuse,” no doubt a worthy cause.

But one of Clinton’s points of emphasis was bizarre – the former president bragged that foreign workers manufactured much of the material that will be used to power the center in the future.

“I think cooperation is better than conflict, even though it’s all out of fashion today,” Clinton said, an underhanded shot at President Trump and his trade conflicts.

“This is a Canadian company that supplies these,” he added, pointing to solar panels. “They’re made in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in Canada, and in China.”

“Nobody’s mad at anybody,” the former president, added with a smile on his face.

Clinton was traveling on behalf of the Clinton Foundation’s efforts to rebuild the Caribbean, and the travel company Expedia partnered with officials to supply the solar panel.
