Bill Nelson Switches Support of Judge After Schumer Cash Infusion Into FL-Sen.

Nelson originally suggested Allen Winsor to the Trump White House for a judgeship. Did a multi-million cash infusion from Chuck Schumer's super PAC change his mind?

Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL), along with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), previously suggested to the Trump White House that they nominate Allen Winsor for a federal judicial spot, but the senator announced Friday that he would not continue to support Winsor’s nomination, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

“‘Because of the information brought up by the Senate Judiciary Committee, I will vote against the confirmation of Allen Winsor,’ the Florida Democrat said in a statement that provided no specifics,” the Times reported.

On Twitter, the paper’s Tallahassee bureau chief asked, “Why?”

Is it a coincidence that Nelson’s announcement came on the same day that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) PAC announced it would air a new ad in support of Nelson’s re-election bid?

Nelson previously called Schumer’s spending the “biggest factor” in his chances at winning another term, according to Politico, and his GOP opponent, Gov. Rick Scott (R-FL), has buried him in fundraising and spending.

Senate Majority PAC, an organization with ties to Schumer, also launched a $2.4-million ad campaign in support of the Florida senator last month.

What would Nelson do to make sure this cash kept pouring into Florida? Would he inexplicably flip-flop on a judge’s nomination?
