NBA Hall of Famer and UCLA basketball legend Bill Walton suggested that former U.S. President Barack Obama should be the next men’s basketball coach for UCLA on Thursday.

UCLA, which boasts one of the most historic programs in college basketball history, fired Head Coach Steve Alford after a disappointing 7-6 start on Monday.

ESPN’s Dave Pasch asked Walton during the UCLA vs Stanford game on Thursday who he thought the next Bruins coach should be.

“Barack Obama,” Walton responded.

Pasch told Walton that he doesn’t think the former president would coach the Bruins.

“Well, you keep saying that. But why? Why are you so negative? Why do you just turn down – ?” Walton asked.

Walton then pointed out that Obama’s brother-in-law, Craig Robinson, coached NCAA Division 1 men’s basketball in the past.

“I’m sticking with Barack Obama until he says no,” Walton added.

Obama does have some coaching experience. In 2012, he coached his daughter Sasha’s youth basketball team to a tournament title.
