According to new reports, Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) is continuing to experience troubles earning the support of black leaders and voters in her own state.

From McClatchy:

Leading black politicians in Missouri have held a series of private meetings in recent weeks with McCaskill. Among those urging her to get more involved are the state’s two veteran black congressional representatives and state Rep. Bruce Franks, the Ferguson protester-turned-politician who admonished McCaskill earlier this year for not doing enough outreach in black communities.

It’s not the first time black leaders have called out McCaskill for not being present for them.

In April, Walle A. Amusa, an organizer and author in St. Louis, wrote a scathing op-ed, published in the St. Louis American, calling on Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) to do more to confront “the scourge of racism and white privilege” in the Missouri Democratic Party.

As the highest elected official in the Missouri Democratic Party, McCaskill must lead in confronting the scourge of racism and white privilege in the state party. A recent letter circulated to counter state Rep. Bruce Franks Jr.’s demand for McCaskill to show up in black communities to address issues of concern to African Americans is a bad move. African Americans who support such a letter should check themselves before they wreck their political careers.

McCaskill increasingly appears to have major problems ahead of her reelection fight, even among voters who traditionally back Democrats in the state.
