With the release of the newest job numbers on Friday, statistics showed that the Trump economy continued to grow, adding 148,000 new jobs. While employment grew at a smaller rate than in previous months of the Trump presidency, one demographic is enjoying its best economic environment in history.

Unemployment among African Americans fell to a historic low at 6.8 percent in December, the latest in a steady decline of the rate from over 15 percent early in the Obama administration.

African Americans continue to lag behind white Americans, who were unemployed at a rate of under 4 percent in November.

But the most recent data indicates that the race gap is closing. Whites held an employment edge over African Americans all throughout the Great Recession, with blacks suffering worse from the economic woes. The difference between the two races has slowly narrowed over the years, and that trend is continuing under the Trump economy.
