Booker Blasts Anti-Semitism Despite Past Promotion of Louis Farrakhan

“It’s not enough to say I’m not racist, you must be anti-racism. It’s not enough to say I’m not anti-Semitic, you must be anti-anti- Semitism."

Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), a possible 2020 presidential candidate, blasted anti-Semitism in a speech at the Anti-Defamation League’s annual summit on Monday, which seemed to contradict Booker’s past promotion of notable anti-Semite, Louis Farrakhan.

“If you love someone, it’s not enough to sit back and watch and be a bystander,” Booker said. “Love means that you must be actively engaged in the affirmation and elevation of human dignity for all people.”

“It’s not enough to say I’m not racist, you must be anti-racism. It’s not enough to say I’m not anti-Semitic, you must be anti-anti-Semitism,” Booker continued. “Love is the active engagement in creating the beloved community and affirming dignity.”

“Our lives are our fortunes and our sacred honor. That’s what America needs right now: that scared honor, that revival of civic grace, that understanding that we must stand up for each other,” Booker said. “That bigotry has no place. That racism has no place. That anti-Semitism has no place.”

However, in 2016, Booker tweeted a photo from the 1995 Million Man March, which included a photo that focused on a poster featuring Louis Farrakhan.

Farrakhan is a noted anti-Semite who in the past has called the Jewish people his “enemy,” “satanic,” and claimed the Jewish people are responsible for “filth and degenerate behavior,” while also praising Adolf Hitler as a “very great man.”
