Booker Raised Just $5 Million in Q1 of 2019

Sen. Cory Booker’s (D-NJ) presidential campaign announced that it had raised $5 million during the first quarter of 2019, a somewhat unimpressive number when compared to other 2020 Democratic presidential candidates.

Booker’s campaign sent an email to supporters announcing that it had raised “over $5 million in February and March,” and that it will have “more than $6.1 million cash on hand,” when they officially file their first FEC report.

The average donation was around $34, and according to Booker’s campaign, “82% of the people who’ve chipped in had never donated” to one of Booker’s previous campaigns.

Compared with other Democratic presidential candidates’ first-quarter fundraising numbers, Booker’s $5 million is less than impressive.

Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) presidential campaign raised $18.2 million in Q1 of 2019, while Sen. Kamala Harris’ (D-CA) campaign raised $12 million during that time, and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke’s (D-TX) presidential campaign raised $9.4 million in just 18 days.

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D-IN) surprised many when he announced that his campaign had raised over $7 million dollars in Q1 of this year.

Several top tier Democratic presidential candidates still have not announced their Q1 fundraising totals, so it’s unclear where Booker will fall when all the numbers are in.
