Brenda Snipes, the controversial Broward County supervisor of elections, said during an interview with CNN on Tuesday that she has been a member of the Democratic Party her whole life and that in her current position she is focused on the party.

CNN’s Chris Cuomo asked Snipes about her refusal to give Governor Rick Scott’s (R-FL) Senate campaign information they requested, despite being ordered to do so by a judge, and about how she responds to criticism that she did this because she is a Democrat.

Cuomo is referring to request that the Scott campaign made for an “accounting of total ballots cast and a breakdown of votes by category” from Broward County, which Snipes refused to provide according to the Miami Herald.

Snipes told Cuomo a story about how a person recently accused her of being a Republican, to which Snipes responded, “I have been a Democrat all my life.”

“In this position, I have been very focused on party, because I want to treat all of the voters in Broward County the same,” Snipes said.

Snipes added she withheld information from Scott’s campaign because it might have been incomplete or incorrect, before talking about the election process in Broward County and how transparent it is.

“Well if it were that obvious Rick Scott wouldn’t have to go to court, with all due respect, doctor, right?” Cuomo interjected. “I mean he had to go to court to get this tour that you’re saying you give to everybody for no reason. But you wouldn’t give it to him, or his people. He had to go to court get it?”

Cuomo then asked Snipes whether this is a fair criticism.

“No, it’s not,” Snipes responded.
