Brown: CA Will Accept Funding to Send National Guard to Border, Will Not “Build a New Wall”

Governor Jerry Brown (D-CA) announced on Wednesday that California will accept federal funding and send 400 members of the California National Guard to the U.S.-Mexico border, but that they will “not be enforcing federal immigration laws.”

President Trump has said that he wants to send 2,000 to 4,000 National Guard troops to the southern border to “fight drug trafficking and illegal immigration.”

There was some speculation that California would not send its National Guard troops to the border.

“This will not be a mission to build a new wall. It will not be a mission to round up women and children or detain people escaping violence and seeking a better life,” Brown wrote. “The California National Guard will not be enforcing federal immigration laws.”

Brown then claimed that “there is no massive wave of migrants pouring into California.”
