Brown Struggles with Border Wall Question

"I don't live in El Paso, and I take the congressman there at his word," Brown said.

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), a possible 2020 presidential candidate, struggled to answer questions about whether he would support tearing down the existing southern border wall during an interview with CNN on Sunday.

CNN’s Dana Bash asked Brown whether he supported former Rep. Beto O’Rourke’s (D-TX) call to tear down some existing parts of America’s southern border wall with Mexico.

O’Rourke told MSNBC that he would be in favor of tearing down the wall that separates El Paso, Texas from Mexico earlier this week.

“I don’t live in El Paso, and I take the congressman there at his word,” Brown said.

Bash pointed out that Brown was a United States Senator and should have an opinion on this issue.

“It’s clear that we’ve learned over time that we have the technology, helicopters, border agents, to make our country safe and to keep illegal crossings at a minimum without building a long wall,” Brown said.

Brown added that the wall needs to be looked at more broadly than just a few miles at a time.
