Contrary to the wishes of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and President Donald Trump, the Republican-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee passed a bipartisan bill to protect Special Counsel Robert Mueller on Thursday.

The bill, according to PBS, would allow a special counsel to “seek expedited judicial review of a firing.” It is widely seen as a measure intended to protect Mueller from a possible move from Trump to fire the special counsel.

All Democrats on the committee voted for the bill, and four Republicans joined them. Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Thom Tillis (R-NC), and Jeff Flake (R-AZ) voted for the measure, according to ABC News’ Trish Turner.

McConnell warned the committee that he would not bring the measure to the floor for a vote, and the president spent much of an interview on “Fox & Friends” on Thursday morning attacking the investigation.
