Buttigieg Takes Second Whack at Sanders This Week

South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D-IN) is taking aim at fellow Democratic presidential hopeful, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), for expressing doubt that Sanders could defeat President Trump during an interview with the New York Times that was published on Wednesday.

Buttigieg told the Times that Sanders’ “left-wing proposals were no longer as provocative as in 2016.”

“People were refreshed by the novelty of that boldness,” Buttigieg said. But now, he says he doesn’t believe Sanders can win. “I have a hard time seeing the coalition ultimately coming together there.”

This statement by Buttigieg comes just a few days after the Midwestern mayor compared Sanders and Trump to each other, saying they “were two sides of the same coin.”

It is also a public break for Buttigieg, who in high school won a national award for an essay he wrote praising Sanders for his socialist views.
