California’s Democratic attorney general warned President Trump on MSNBC on Monday that he should not go into a “dark alley” with Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA).

Attorney General Xavier Becerra responded to Trump’s description of Maxine Waters as a “low IQ individual,” saying that the president was afraid to say it to her face.

“Donald Trump probably said that from about 2,000 miles away from Maxine Waters because he’s probably too afraid to say it to her face,” he said. The attorney general then praised Waters, who has been described as one of the “most corrupt” members of Congress, for her work in Washington.

“Maxine can take care of herself, and I would urge Donald Trump to be careful if he ever finds himself in a dark alley with Maxine Waters,” Becerra added.

MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell laughed at his comment, offering, “That’s a funny image.”
