California’s Gas Tax Costs the Average Driver $750 a Year

An analysis conducted by California’s Legislative Analyst’s Office estimates that the state’s controversial gas tax costs the average Californian driver $750 per year in taxes and fees.

The gas tax, which had been passed by Democratic lawmakers, led by Gov. Jerry Brown (D-CA), is deeply unpopular with Californians, according to recent polls.

CNBC is now reporting how much this gas tax will cost the average Californian:

“An official analysis done by the state’s Legislative Analyst’s Office estimated California’s transportation bill would cost the average driver $750 per year in taxes and fees. California has the second-highest gas taxes after Pennsylvania when combining state, local and federal gas taxes, according to GasBuddy.”

Luckily for Californians, an initiative to repeal the gas tax which, spearheaded by House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), successfully made it on to the November ballot on Monday.

McCarthy has expressed optimism that the people of California will repeal the gas tax in November, saying that they have had enough of Democrats in Sacramento imposing “harmful regulations, taxes, and red tape” on them.
