Castellanos Suggests Democrats Could Flip More Than 63 House Seats in 2018

"Barack Obama in his first midterm lost 63 seats in the House...It's hard to see that Donald Trump would be less polarizing and things would go better for him."

ABC News’ political analyst Alex Castellanos said that Arizona’s 8th Congressional District special election is closer than people think and suggested that Democrats could take back more than 63 seats in the upcoming midterm elections during an interview on Tuesday.

The host of News/Talk 92.3 KTAR asked Castellanos if he thought Democrats could win Arizona’s special election on Tuesday.

“This race is tighter than it ought to be. You know Republicans have a 22-point edge on registration here, Trump carried it by 21, and so far the signs are good for Republicans,” Castellanos said. “Republicans should be able to hold on, but we’ve got a low turnout election here. Anything could happen.”

Castellanos then said that “if Democrats are even close” in the Arizona special election, “it does not argue well for Republicans,” in 2018.

The host then asked Castellanos if the 2018 midterm election would be a referendum on President Trump.

“Yes it’s going to be all about Donald Trump in 2018,” Castellanos said. “Barack Obama in his first midterm lost 63 seats in the House. Bill Clinton lost 52. It’s hard to see that Donald Trump would be less polarizing and things would go better for him.”
