Castro Struggles to Explain Why He Should Be President

"Well as I said earlier I think that being mayor of a large city and serving in the president's cabinet certainly qualifies one to be commander-in-chief."

Former secretary of Housing and Urban Development and potential 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, Julián Castro, struggled to explain what made him qualified to be the next President of the United States during an interview on Sunday.

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos asked Castro what made him qualified to be the next commander-in-chief of the United States, pointing out that Castro doesn’t have much foreign policy experience.

“Well, I believe that today, the greatest threat to our national security is the fact that this president, as one of your previous guest said, is damaging the relationships we’ve had in place in the post-World War II era,” Castro said.

Castro then told Stephanopoulos that the first thing he would do as president would be to strengthen America’s relationships around the world.

Stephanopoulos pressed Castro on his answer and asked again what made him qualified to be the next commander-in-chief.

“Well, as I said earlier, I think that being mayor of a large city and serving in the president’s Cabinet certainly qualifies one to be commander-in-chief,” Castro responded.
