Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Jackson blasted 2020 Democratic presidential candidates for jumping to conclusions surrounding embattled “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett’s alleged hate crime before the Chicago Police had concluded its investigation on Thursday.

Last month, Smollett alleged that he had been the victim of a hate crime, which caused some prominent 2020 Democratic presidential candidates, including Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) and Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), to politicize the alleged attack.

After conducting an almost month-long investigation, the Chicago Police department has arrested Smollett and alleged that he orchestrated the attack because he was unsatisfied with his television show salary.

“To make things worse, the accusation within this phony attack received national attention for weeks. Celebrities, news commentators, and even presidential candidates weighed in on something that was choreographed by an actor,” Jackson said.
