Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper criticized Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) and the House Intelligence Committee for their decision to release the FISA memo in an appearance on CNN on Wednesday.

“The committee is paralyzed with partisanship,” Clapper said, predicting that would continue as long as Nunes remained chairman. “It’s a sad thing to see.”

He called the House committee “beyond hope” and attributed that failure of appropriate oversight to Nunes and the White House’s desire to “discredit the Mueller investigation.”

“[Nunes] is, in my view, an agent of the White House,” the former DNI added.

Despite his criticism of the House Intelligence Committee, Clapper praised the work of the Senate Intelligence Committee under Sens. Richard Burr (R-NC) and Mark Warner (D-VA).
