Former Director of National Intelligence (DNI) James Clapper told CNN’s Chris Cuomo on Monday evening that President Trump’s negotiations with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un were “off to a good start.”

“So far, so good,” Clapper said, when asked to evaluate the body language of the president and the North Korean leader.

“I notice it’s a very similar format as in the press sprays in the Oval Office,” he explained. “The president adapted the same pose he always adapts when he’s in the Oval in a similar circumstance.”

“From the optics, it’s off to a good start,” Clapper said.

The former DNI is often a target of Trump’s Twitter wrath, and he consistently criticizes the president on television, making praise from him all the more surprising.
