Clinton Hypothetically Calls on Chinese to Interfere in the 2020 Elections on Behalf of Democrats

"And not only that, China, if you're listening, why don't you get Trump's tax returns? I'm sure our media would richly reward you."

Twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton presented a hypothetical scenario during an interview on MSNBC in which she called on the Chinese government to interfere in the upcoming 2020 presidential election on behalf of Democrats on Wednesday.

Rachel Maddow asked Clinton whether she thought there were things that the United States government could be doing ahead of the 2020 presidential election to prevent foreign interference.

“Absolutely, and we have evidence of that. On Election Day in 2018, we know that our government used cyber tools to shut down a lot of the sites that they feared could be interfering,” Clinton said. “I think that’s just literally the tip of the spear though. I think there’s so much more that could and should be done.”

Clinton then blamed Senate Republicans for blocking measures that would help prevent foreign interference.

“Imagine, Rachel, that you had one of the Democratic nominees for 2020 on your show, and that person said, you know, the only other adversary of ours who is anywhere near as good as the Russians is China,” Clinton said. “So why should Russia have all the fun? And since Russia is clearly backing Republicans, why don’t we ask China to back us?’

“I hereby tonight ask China,” Maddow interjected.

“That’s right,” Clinton said. “And not only that, China, if you’re listening, why don’t you get Trump’s tax returns? I’m sure our media would richly reward you.”

Clinton’s remarks are a call back to when in 2016 Donald Trump, then the Republican nominee for president, called on Russia to hack into and distribute 30,000 emails from Clinton’s private email server that she failed to give to authorities. When pressed on his remarks, Trump said he was not serious.
