Since early in the 2016 election cycle, President Trump has consistently argued that Amazon and its owner Jeff Bezos are avoiding paying their fair share in taxes, as a compilation on CNBC showed Wednesday.

According to Axios, Trump is considering using antitrust laws to smash Amazon, and sources close to the president described him as “obsessed” with Amazon to Jonathan Swan.

CNBC pulled public remarks from the president where he slammed the company and Bezos.

February 26, 2016: “[Bezos] owns Amazon. He wants political influence so that Amazon will benefit from it. That’s not right, and believe me, if I become president, oh do they have problems.”

May 12, 2016: “Amazon is getting away with murder tax-wise. [Bezos] is using The Washington Post for power so that the politicians in Washington don’t tax Amazon like they should be taxed.”

January 10, 2018: “They’re going to have to start paying sales tax. Because it’s very unfair what’s happening to our retailers all over the country.”

Bezos owns The Washington Post in addition to Amazon.
