CNBC’s Jim Cramer reported on Monday that CNBC’s Larry Kudlow is the leading contender to replace Gary Cohn as the head of the National Economic Council, and that Kudlow would take the position if President Trump offered him the job.

“Larry Kudlow is the leading contender for the job to replace Gary Cohn. The leading contender,” Cramer reported. “I think if he was offered it he would take it.”

Cohn resigned from the position as the head of the National Economic Council following last week Trump proposal to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum.

Cramer also reported that Kudlow spoke to Trump about the position and that Kudlow “wants the job.”

CNBC’s Carl Quintanilla asked Cramer whether Kudlow was the leading contender or just a contender.

Cramer informed Quintanilla that Kudlow was “the” leading contender for the job, not just a contender.
