CNN devoted a considerable amount of airtime to covering it’s now debunked story regarding Donald Trump, Jr. receiving advance notice from WikiLeaks “about a trove of hacked documents that it planned to release during last year’s presidential campaign,” according to data provided to NTK from the Republican National Committee (RNC).

The Washington Post reported on the inconsistency in CNN’s reporting at around 1pm on Friday, and CNN was forced to correct their story.

The RNC found that CNN spent 27 times more on-air time covering its fake news story than it did the retraction.

CNN also discussed the incorrect story 19 times before the Post’s report, which equates to almost 4 times an hour. CNN only mentioned the retraction of the Donald Trump, Jr. story once that entire day.

From when the CNN story broke until when it stopped reporting on it after The Washington Post story came out, CNN dedicated 30 percent of its on-air programming to this one story, according to the RNC. CNN dedicated just 1 percent of its on-air programming to the retraction during a comparable timeframe.

President Donald Trump took to Twitter and attacked CNN for what he saw as a ‘fake news’ story on Friday.
