CNN employees are up in flabby arms over a new edict from parent company WarnerMedia: no more massive discounts on memberships to luxury gym, Equinox. The move has upset enough employees that they’ve begun circulating a petition to reverse the company’s decision.

If WarnerMedia follows through on its plan, CNN employees will no longer receive their sizable discount to Equinox starting in July.

CNN employees currently pay $110 per month for an Equinox membership that allows them access to all clubs, according to a petition circulated among employees at the network. Per an internal email, however, that discount is set to end on June 30 when WarnerMedia employees switch to the Equinox discount provided to employees of AT&T, which recently acquired WarnerMedia.

Now, according to the CNN petition, network employees in New York will be forced to fork over $238 per month if they want access to the Hudson Yards Equinox branch, near the cable channel’s newly relocated New York City headquarters.

The Equinox nearest the CNN employees boasts that the gym is “so intelligent, so thoughtful and so luxurious, the bar for what’s possible will never be the same,” adding that it “embraces high performance at a grand new scale, delivering elevated experiences, a stunning club space, and unparalleled amenities for New York’s newest neighborhood.”

The average American spends $33 per month on a gym membership, according to a 2018 survey.

The Daily Beast reported that more than 100 CNN employees, along with employees at partner organization HBO, have already signed the petition demanding that WarnerMedia reinstate the discount, which they claim is an employee benefit:

“Help us let the parties involved know that we can’t afford this $128/month hike,” reads one petition. “A $1500 annual employee benefit has been stripped away without a comparable replacement,” reads another.

A quick search on Google Maps indicated that a Planet Fitness is located about 5 blocks from the Equinox at Hudson Yards. Unlike the Equinox, Planet Fitness is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and memberships begin at $10 per month.
