CNN: McCabe Wants Immunity in Exchange for Testimony

According to a CNN report, former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe wants immunity in exchange for testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding the Department of Justice’s handling of the Clinton email probe.

The potential deal would not grant McCabe immunity from criminal prosecution, but would rather prevent prosecutors from using any of his testimony in their investigation.

The hearing is slated to take place next week, with several DOJ officials invited. McCabe, one of the requested officials, wants a guarantee beforehand:

“Under the terms of such a grant of use immunity, no testimony or other information provided by Mr. McCabe could be used against him in a criminal case,” wrote Michael Bromwich, a lawyer for McCabe, to Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, who has requested McCabe testify next week.

Grassley, an Iowa Republican, has quietly requested that several former officials appear in front of the Judiciary Committee to discuss the long-awaited internal Justice Department report, which sources say will detail a series of missteps surrounding the Justice Department and FBI’s investigation into Clinton’s handling of classified information while secretary of state.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions dismissed McCabe earlier this year after an inspector general report accused the former deputy director of lying to investigators.

The inspector general referred McCabe’s case to the DOJ for criminal prosecution.
