CNN Producer David Shortell said that his camera crew had been waiting outside of longtime Republican operative Roger Stone’s Fort Lauderdale home for about an hour before the FBI arrived to take Stone into custody on Friday.

The FBI conducted the raid on Stone’s home after a District of Columbia grand jury indicted him on seven counts.

CNN’s cameras were on the scene to capture the whole incident, which caused some to speculate that they might have been tipped off by law enforcement.

“We were here at 5 AM waiting for whatever was going to happen. It was dark, 6 AM, just after the hour about a half-dozen police vehicles with sirens but no sound pulled in front of this Fort Lauderdale house,” Shortell told CNN’s Alisyn Camerota during an interview on Friday. Since by definition sirens have sound, he probably meant the police cruiser lights were on but the sirens were not.

Later in the interview, Camerota asked why he was camped outside Stone’s homes at 5 AM.

“Alisyn its reporter’s instinct,” Shortell responded.
