CNN Reporter Admits the Network is Obsessed With Russia

"Out in these districts when you talk to people about Russia, and that's all we talk about at CNN basically, they say they don't care," Reston said on Sunday.

CNN’s Maeve Reston noted that CNN only talks about the Russia investigation, despite the fact that everyday Americans don’t care about the issue, during a panel discussion on “Inside Politics” on Sunday.

“One of the things that I’m most excited talking to voters about is you are starting to see that uneasiness about the economy sort of dissipate,” Reston said. “Remember, even in 2016 when we went out to these swing states and talked to voters, there was still this fear that things were suddenly going to turn down again.”

“You don’t feel that as much anymore, and I’m so interested to see how the Russia investigation affects things, because so far, out in these districts when you talk to people about Russia, and that’s all we talk about at CNN basically, they say they don’t care,” Reston added.

President Trump has called CNN out for what he considers its obsession with the Russia investigation. CNN has had to correct or retract several false stories.

  • CNN initially reported on the controversial Trump dossier but elected not to publish the dossier, which was later published by Buzzfeed News.
  • In June, three CNN reporters and editors also resigned, following the retraction of an article on Anthony Scaramucci meeting with a Russian. Vox called this “one of CNN’s biggest black eyes of 2017.” This resulted in CNN “implementing strict new rules for the network’s stories regarding Russia.”
  • CNN also initially falsely reported in September that Donald Trump, Jr. received an email from Wikileaks about hacked DNC documents on September 4, a story that turned out to be false, as Vox reported.
  • Then, in November, CNN published a story titled “Trump asks Japan to build cars in the U.S. It already does.” The Washington Post called out CNN “cherry-picking” Trump’s quote about Japanese cars.
